Paris Merveilles at Lido de Paris

29 October 2015

Watch the Lido’s Glamorous New Cabaret Show During a Four-Star Stay at Amarante Champs-Élysées

Despite international adoration for the Moulin Rouge, Lido de Paris is regarded by many as Paris’ most famous venue for cabaret. Located on the Champs-Élysées, minutes from our four-star city centre hotel, the Lido has become an institution in its own right… offering the chance to enjoy an unabashedly glamourous night out in the very heart of Paris. Every 10 to 15 years, performances are modernised and rejuvenated to provide a contemporary take on the iconic form of entertainment, and this year, attendees have had the pleasure of seeing its latest metamorphosis.

Paris Merveilles

After an investment of 25 million euros and a four month refurbishment, the Lido’s exclusive doors swung back open in April to welcome locals and visitors alike for an elegant afternoon or evening of breath-taking acrobatics, dance and music. Its new show is called ‘Paris Merveilles’, which translates as ‘Paris Wonderland’ and explores the iconic sights of the capital in a fresh, fast-paced and awe-inspiring way; combining cutting-edge technology with the charm of traditional jewel adorned outfits. As 200 kilos of feathers waft around the stage in time to the 45 piece orchestra, 300 light projectors and LED screens covering a 100m² area will be helping to create an enchanting Parisian performance.

Its reputation for creating the ultimate night out began back in 1946, when brothers Joseph and Louis Clérico bought the Lido and handed creative reign over to renowned showman Pierre-Louis Guérin. With the help of Artistic Director René Fraday, he transformed the venue into an unmissable attraction that boasted shows that featured ice-skating rinks, swimming pools and even a helicopter. They introduced the concept of a dinner show to the capital, and drew many famous faces for performances such as Eartha Kitt, Josephine Baker, Edith Piaf and Elton John.

Today the line-up may have changed but the exuberant spirit lives on. Franco Dragone is writer and director, and was behind Celine Dion’s ‘A New Day’ residency show in Las Vegas, as well as being known for his involvement in Cirque du Soleil’s first ten shows. His eye for talent has resulted in an international team featuring the likes of award-winning choreographer Benoît Swan Pouffer, who studied in both Paris and New York, and costume designer Nicholas Vaudelet, whose career has seen him collaborating with Dior, Louis Vuitton and Christian Lacroix, amongst many others.

The show features over 40 dancers, known as The Bluebell Girls, who join the nearly 10,000 dancers who have graced the Lido’s stage over the decades; each of whom encapsulated the Bluebell essence of excellence, precision and energy. 12 Lido Boys and an array of additional acrobats and entertainers join them on stage each day and night, including singer Manon whose stunning mezzo-soprano voice saw her reach the semi-final of The Voice and sword-swallowing performer Lucky Hell who has shared a stage with burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese.
